Our School Board Members

Welcome!

The Camino Union School Board oversees the educational policies and decisions for the Camino Union School District in California. It is responsible for ensuring quality education, fiscal accountability, and the overall well-being of students in the district. The board is composed of elected members who work together to set goals, approve budgets, and make decisions that impact the district's schools. They collaborate with the community, staff, and administration to enhance educational opportunities and student success.

The Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. for Closed Session and will go into Open Session at 6:30 p.m every 2nd Tuesday of the month. If necessary, the Board will reconvene to Closed Session after other business at the end of a meeting. If need be, a Special Board Meeting will be held on the 4th Tuesday of the month.

    April 28-Communication of Vacancy

    • Announcement of resignation and vacancy in Public (open) Session: Christy Holt, May 13, (for the term ending in December 2026)
    • Notification to COE Superintendent (Christy Holt, April 28, 2025)
    • Notification to the Registrar of Voters (Christy Holt, May 7, 2025)

    May 27 - Board Meeting - Board member reports section

    • Board President will review the application and interview process with the Board in a Public (open) Session
    • Trustee duties to be explained (what does a potential applicant need to know about the position and what should an applicant be prepared for in seeking this appointment)

    • Appoint/evaluate the Superintendent/Principal

    • Attend meetings regularly (as scheduled)

    • Approve policy

    • Appoint Board members when vacancies occur

    • Work collaboratively with the Board and as a member of the Governance Team (including the Superintendent/Principal)

    • Maintain a focus on the students served by the CUSD

    * Applicants will need to submit their application packet to the Pat Kernan, Board President,  pkernan@caminoschool.com (CUSD, 3060 Snows Road, Camino, CA. 95709), no later than 4:00 p.m. Friday,  June 13, 2025.

    • Emailed applications will also be accepted, no later than 4:00 p.m. Friday,  June 13, 2025, to mlupina@caminoschool.com
    •  Applications to include a resume, letter of introduction, and statement of interest
    • In filling the vacancy, all completed application packets (including all required documents) will be reviewed. If there are more than three applications, an ad hoc committee will be developed (consisting of 2 Board members, including the Board President) to screen the applications and determine the applicants who will be interviewed in a Board Meeting/Interview process in open session
    • What is the timeline for filling a Board Member Vacancy with a Provisional Appointment?
      • Once a Board member has filed their resignation with the County
      • Superintendent, the Board has sixty (60) days from the date of the vacancy to either make a provisional appointment or order a special election. (Ed.Code, § 5091.) Given the cost of an election, school boards generally opt to make a provisional appointment.
      • •If the Board fails to make an appointment or order an election within sixty {60) days of the vacancy, the County Superintendent is required to call an election. (Ed. Code,§ 5091, subd. (a)(2).)

    By May 28th

    • Board Communication/process outlined by the Board President will be posted on the District website, advertised as requested by the Board, and available in the office for the Public

    June 13th 

    • Application process closes at 4:00 p.m.

    The Board expressly reserves the right to extend the June 13th Board Timeline in the event the District only receives two or fewer applications.

    June 17 (or by June 20th)

    • All completed applications will be reviewed for completeness. An ad hoc committee consisting of two Board members (including the Board President) will be established (if there are three or more applicants). If fewer than three, directions will be given by the Board to notify applicants to interview in an open session of a Board meeting (on June 24th or before June 27th). If necessary, this item can be completed in a Special Board Meeting.

    June 24 (or by June 27)- Special Board Meeting/Interviews of Applicants for Appointee Seat (Staff lounge is the waiting area for candidates as they come in for their scheduled times)

    •  Board President will be the facilitator of the interviews
