Emergency Procedure

Should an emergency arise at school, we will use our emergency phone notification system to send out a message to advise you of the situation. As a parent, you can ensure that fire fighters, law enforcement and school officials are able to handle an emergency. Please do not rush to the school to pick up your child. Emergency plans are in place to reunite students with their parents as quickly as possible.

Matt Smith Named EDCOE’s Director of Mental Health and Wellness

April 18, 2022

Camino Staff and Families,

This morning it will be announced that I will be transitioning out of my current position as Superintendent/Principal of Camino Union School District, into a newly created position at the El Dorado County Office of Education in July this Summer. The new position will be the Director of Mental Health and Wellness programs for El Dorado County. I will be working with all of the school districts in the county to develop improved and increased Mental Health and Wellness services for all students in ED County. Our amazing little Camino Wellness Center could prove to be a great example of how to provide the services our students need right now. It is a privilege to work with our county leaders to develop a system of strong school based mental health services for all students. Although I will be sad to leave Camino, I know that our community supports this kind of work and the importance it has in our children being successful in life.

Please know that the School District is in great hands, and that our Board of Trustees are already working on the transition plans. It has been a privilege to work with such a dedicated team of teachers, support staff, and leaders throughout my eight years as Camino USD Superintendent/Principal. I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish, and I look forward to seeing what the new leadership will set as goals for the future. Although I am changing jobs, I am not changing communities. I love Camino, my kids love Camino, and I will maintain a strong presence in our community programs. Again, thank you for the privilege of leading our small school of excellence over the last eight years. It has been a challenging decade, but Camino USD has proven how to be successful by being “stronger together”.

Sincerely,

Matt Smith

Superintendent/Principal, Camino USD
