EDCOE Innovation Grants run strong for a second year at Camino School District

During the 2014-15 school year, one EDCOE Innovation Grant was awarded to a classroom at Camino Elementary School and targeted toward socioeconomically disadvantaged students and English language learners. Teachers were able to procure a set of Chrome books for third and fourth graders, which were integrated into a blended-learning curriculum. After using the devices for only eight months, English learning students on average advanced 1.4 grade levels.  Read more...

From the Superintendent-Principal's Desk

Happy Harvest Season to all,

Fall is here and hopefully we will see cooler temperatures and some rain soon...we need it!!! There is a lot going on at Camino this month so check your calendars and plan to have some fun with us. The Charter Middle School will be off to Yosemite for a week, playoff tournaments for Volleyball and Football, ED County Cross Country Finals, Connect and Respect training program, Red Ribbon Day, Jog a Thon, the Apple Hill Harvest Run and of course HALLOWEEN! So no excuses, come on out and have some fun with our Camino Community.
We encourage parents to participate in the community meetings that will be happening over the next few months to discuss CUSD facility projects. The elementary campus was built in 1952 and really needs some infrastructure support. We will be discussing health and safety projects to rebuild the parking lot, improve bathrooms, water and sewer service, security systems, windows, playgrounds, fields, etc. The CUSD Board of Trustees created a Facility Sub-Committee of Camino stakeholders last spring. The sub-committee has met every other week since then to discuss, prioritize, and plan, but we want to have more community input. So please plan to attend one of our community meetings and be a part of the process. Camino Schools are proud to be part of this community, and we want the Camino community to be proud of their schools.
The new CAASPP assessment reports from the state have all been sent home and the results were positive. We are continuing our progress and look forward to the next opportunity to show evidence of learning at Camino Schools. This year we will be implementing more CAASPP Interim Assessments, which will give us a better understanding of how students are progressing throughout the year. Although the new state standards are difficult, they are not beyond our student learning capacity. We look forward to this privilege and challenge of educating all Camino students. There is a tremendous amount of change taking place in education these days, but CUSD is focused on the good it will bring and the excitement for new opportunities. Please partner with your student and their teacher to encourage hard work and the value of education.

Back to school night welcomes parents to CUSD

Parents and families at back to school night this week met with our educators, toured the schools and gathered valuable information regarding the high-quality education they receive at Camino Union School District. Superintendent Matt Smith welcomed everyone and explained why our students are in very good hands, “We have amazing teachers and staff providing unique programs that enrich the lives of our future community leaders. Our school district is an integral part of our amazingly supportive community, and in turn, you are always welcome to provide input and become involved in our schools.” Parents then followed their students’ school schedule and visited classrooms to experience a day in their child’s educational lives, complete with presentations by the teachers. Thank you to the parents and families who came for a couple of wonderful nights!Camino 2 2
