The students of Camino Union Elementary School District have begun our annual California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) testing. CAASPP testing is administered to students annually to evaluate academic progress and performance in grades third through eighth. It provides valuable data to evaluate the effectiveness of our curriculum, identifies areas needing improvement, and ensures that students meet state standards.
CAASPP testing has begun in our district, and will continue after Spring Break. We encourage all our parents, guardians, and families to recognize its significance in evaluating our district and students while promoting accountability and identifying achievement gaps. By leveraging the insights gained from CAASPP testing, we can continue to strive towards providing high-quality education for all students and ensuring they are prepared for future success.
As a parent/guardian, you play a crucial role in supporting your child’s academic success, including preparing for the CAASPP test. Here are some ways you can help your child do well and ease testing anxiety:
Ensure your child attends school and arrives on time.
Make sure your child gets to bed at an early time and gets a good night’s sleep.
Feed your child a healthy breakfast before dropping them off at school or if they participate in morning breakfast, make sure they arrive on time.
Encourage your child to do their best and remind them that their test performance does not solely determine their academic progress.
We encourage all our students to do their best during the testing period and remember that they got this! We also thank you for making Camino such a unique and special place to learn.

INCLEMENT WEATHER NOTICE
Dear Parents,
During inclement weather, the Camino School District will notify all parents of snow day or any bus stop changes,
through automated phone calls and Parent Square.
Additionally, we will request that local television and radio stations share these updates with their
audiences.
On days when a storm hits too late to adjust bell schedules, school buses will still run their routes as
safely as possible. However, due to road conditions, buses may operate at slower speeds.
For your child’s safety, we understand that it is ultimately your decision whether to allow them to ride
the bus to school or how long to wait at the bus stop.
If you have recently updated your phone number(s) or email address, please notify the school office as
soon as possible. Keeping your contact information up to date ensures you receive our automated calls
and important notifications.

Dear Camino Families and Students,
Get ready for a whole new look. At the end of the week we will be launching a new look to our website. All the same information, tabs, and links will be there. The site is migrating into a more updated version and new look. We hope this creates a more user friendly tool for everyone.
California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)
Next week begins the testing window for Camino School. The CAASPP assessments are given to all students grades 3-8 on an annual basis. Among many other metrics, state testing does provide valuable insight on how we are performing as a school. I hope all of Camino’s 3rd - 8th grade students do their absolute best on these performance assessments. As a district, we will gain a fair bit of data and understanding based on how students do. Thank you for your help in encouraging our students to do their absolute best.
Later this week, Mr. Sabbagh will send out some additional information regarding testing times and locations over the next few weeks.

2:00 am Moment
Here at Camino we have begun talks about AI in earnest. Agree or disagree, AI is in our landscape and the vast majority of us are using AI tools without even realizing it. The hope within our conversations here is to stay abreast of the changes to education that are fueled by AI. Not necessarily to implement those changes, but to be aware and informed. I have often used the example of Kodak and missing the boom of digital photography. No school or district wants to be the Kodak example of Educational AI. That being said, many are still unsure or nervous about AI in schools, or simply in general. To that I offered up a simple challenge: Using an AI tool like ChatGBT input 4-6 ingredients you find in your fridge and ask for a good recipient for dinner. Thus far the feedback has been positive. Apparently AI knows its way around the kitchen. So I extend the challenge to all of you. If you are new, unfamiliar, or unsure of AI, try the dinner challenge. I am curious to hear what culinary delights you all discover!
So there I was at 2:00am, wide awake, wondering what crazy 4-6 ingredients I could input and still get a decent meal out of the deal!
Thank you,
Matthew BarnesSuperintendent/Principal CUSD
